Flipped Classroom!
Hi everyone! Today I am going to write about how to create a
flipped classroom video.
In our lesson Current Issues in ELT, we are required to
create a flipped classroom video in pairs.
Flipped classroom video aims to teach the lesson outside
the classroom and create more time for in-class activities. In this approach,
students will learn the topic from the video that the teacher prepared and when the
students come to the classroom, they will be ready to do activities and practice.
This approach has some advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are, by using
flipped classroom videos there will be more time to practice in the classroom
and learning progress will be more fun for the students. Possible disadvantages
could be a lack of digital devices in students’ homes or technical problems
like internet connections. However, I think that every teacher should use the flipped classroom
approach more often.
Creating the flipped classroom video was entertaining for
me. With Betül, we first chose the topic we wanted to teach about. The parties
unit attracted us because we thought creating a video about a birthday party would be fun. We wrote a short story named Anna’s Birthday Party and we
used the required words while writing the story. After that, we chose a theme and created
the video step by step. Except for the recording of our voices part, we worked
online. The only difficulty was recording our voices and we solved this problem
by working at school.
We used Canva to create the video because it has everything we need. Finding animated stickers and adding animation to the text was
easy in Canva.
After all, it was a fun assignment. I will use this
technique in my future classes because it has a lot of advantages.
You can find the video right here. The practice is here.
Stay tuned! :)
